Transem (Pty)Ltd was established in 1979 by Dr. Pieter Burger as an embryo transplanting company. The name Transem is a combination of “Transfer Embryos.”
The purpose was to breed genetically super cows to produce milk for the manufacturing of maas to the thousands of employees of the surrounding gold mines in the Klerksdorp area. Transem soon added fresh pasteurised milk to its product range. Transem later changed hands to Mr. Jan de Kock and the Martinson family. During 1993, Transem was acquired by its current directors and shareholders, who were at that time the owners of Potchefstroom Dairy in Potchefstroom. They merged the two companies and decided to continue with the Transem facility only.
During 1994 the Potchefstroom Dairy brand was discontinued and production in Potchefstroom was ceased. Both dairy’s productions were then marketed under the Transem brand. Only the “Sappy” brand for yoghurt and juice products remained from the old Potchefstroom Dairy. Since then all products are packed and distributed from the facility in Uraniaville Klerksdorp. With Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom as supplying areas, Transem (Pty)Ltd saw and took all opportunities to grow the company to its full potential. Various opportunities came upon our road to success.
Transem (Pty) Ltd. is a privately family-owned company. The directors and shareholders are J.A. du Plessis, A.C. du Plessis, and newcomer M.A. du Plessis.
The company was established in 1979 and the main activities are milk processing and dairy product distribution to all sectors of the customer spectrum. The main categories of products are fresh milk, fresh cream, yoghurt, maas and cheese. Besides dairy products we also pack fruit juices mixed from concentrates. Our modern production facility is in Uraniaville, Klerksdorp. We have our own fleet of milk tankers for milk collection from the farms, as well as a fleet of refrigerated trucks for delivery of our products to our customers.
All maintenance is done in-house resulting in less down time and well-functioning of our equipment. Quality plays the most important role in our operation which includes an audit done once a year on our facility for food safety. Our highly qualified laboratory staff runs various quality monitoring programs and our representatives take good care of our products on the retailer’s shelves to ensure that the consumer gets the best dairy products on the table. Our products are well distributed daily over our serving areas where products are available at almost every outlet, no matter how big or small.
Regularly staff training enjoys high priority and is very important to us. Transem also conducts a quality award program for our milk producers with a glamorous yearly award event giving recognition to those producers who works hard to supply quality raw milk to us.
